Last updated December 25, 2024

Although Thailand is a Buddhist country, we embrace Christmas like no other! Every corner, every shopping mall is well-decorated with Christmas decorations, Christmas lights, and festive illuminations. Experiencing Christmas in Bangkok can be one of the most exciting experiences while you are in town.

Over the years, I’ve seen many Christmas trees in Bangkok from the most iconic ones at centralwOrld to many luxury hotels like Four Seasons, Marriott, and more. But there is only one place in my heart that never disappoints. Every single year, Mandarin Oriental Bangkok always has the most beautiful Christmas tree that portrays creativity and immense great detail. Each year, it would have a different theme that manages to captivate the hearts of every visitor.

So, if you wonder where is the most beautiful Christmas tree in the city, look no further and join me on this blog to see the Christmas trees at Mandarin Oriental throughout the years as well as learning more about the history of this iconic hotel in Thailand.

History of Mandarin Oriental

The Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok, is a true icon of Bangkok and a symbol of the city's rich history and culture. Dating back to 1876, it opened as the Oriental Hotel. It was the first luxury hotel in Thailand and remains one of the oldest in Asia. The hotel quickly became a popular destination for travelers and dignitaries. Over the years, the hotel has undergone several renovations and expansions. In 1979, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group acquired the hotel and renamed it the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok. Today, the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok remains one of the most prestigious hotels in the city welcoming many celebrities, royalty, and heads of state.

Fun fact: The Mandarin Oriental Bangkok has the nickname "Grande Dame of Bangkok." This nickname reflects the hotel's long and illustrious history, elegant and sophisticated atmosphere. The hotel remains the top hotel in Thailand, known for its exceptional service, luxurious accommodations, and stunning views of the Chao Phraya River.

Hotel Overview

The hotel's architecture and design is a combination of traditional Thai aesthetics and modern luxury, featuring elegant colonial-style architecture and lavish interiors. The Mandarin Oriental Bangkok has 331 rooms and suites, and the suites often come with personalized butler service. The hotel provides a full range of services and facilities, from a multi-award-winning spa to a cooking school.

If you would like to bundle the experiences of seeing a Christmas tree with great food, you can try one of their restaurants such as:

  • Le Normandie: A two Michelin-starred French fine-dining restaurant

What's not to miss when coming to see the Christmas Tree at The Mandarin Oriental Bangkok?

It is highly recommended that you have some mouth-watering homemade delicacies at The Mandarin Oriental Shop. The Mandarin Oriental Shops are located at Siam Paragon, The Emporium, Gaysorn Village, and in the lobby corner at the Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok.

Their great selections include pastries, cakes, macarons, and more. My personal favorite is the macarons. Make sure to try their signature flavors such as Rose & Vanilla, Yoghurt & Wild Berries, Salted Caramel, and Strawberry & Jasmine Tea. Don't forget to pair your sweet treats with your choice of tea or coffee. Here, they serve TWG, a well-known luxury tea brand renowned for its exquisite teas and a wonderful taste.

2020: A Year of Dazzling Gold, Soft Beige, and Timeless White

In 2020, I tried the festive afternoon tea at The Authors' Lounge. This sophisticated spot is known for its exquisite afternoon tea, featuring a wide selection of tea blends, pastries, and savories. While enjoying the sweet treats, you can enjoy live music and the beautiful setting. The Festive Set included savory items such as Mandarin Foie Gras, Parmesan Snow Man, and Smoked Salmon with Horseradish Cream, while the sweet items included yummy treats such as Santa Black Forest Cake, Citrus Caroline, and Gingerbread Snowman.

My favorite part about this Festive set was not only the food and the atmosphere but also the music box that I could take home with me. Until today, I still have it at home, and it is such a wonderful reminder of my great afternoon tea experience at Authors' Lounge. If you have a chance, I highly recommend this place.

Each detail represents ideas and hard work put into it. So congratulations to Mandarin Oriental Bangkok for always creating the most beautiful Christmas tree in Bangkok each year.
