Best spa in Bangkok

A herbal compress ball or known as Luk Pra Kob is a uniquely Thai wisdom and a great addition to your massage to relief sore muscles.

Luxurious spa experience in Bangkok is something you should consider adding into your Thailand’s bucket list. Imagine how it would feel after a long day of walking in a heat, this little treat of self-love will be a great addition to your Bangkok experience.

I must confess. I'm a bit of a spa snob. Fortunately, I live in Bangkok where getting a massage is as easy as going to shopping mall. However, not all spas are made equal. Like everyone else, I've tried many well-known chain spas and local shops and I was more disappointed than pleased for too many times. And that’s when I started to explore the hotel spas and ever since, I am hooked! Why?

Hotel spas provide a truly relaxing experience because of its ambience and on-site facilities. Secondly, they offer standardized service, ensuring that therapists are highly-skilled, well-trained and most importantly, professional. Thirdly, they use high quality products and well-known brands. And I personally love trying new brands. I would also like to add that the pricing in Bangkok is still more competitive compared to other countries.

So, I think you can still justify the cost and and the value you get in return. And if you keep reading, I will reveal with you my secrets on getting good deals on hotel spa. Now, let’s dive into 14 luxurious hotel spas that I think you should consider.

1. Anantara Spa at Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel

Anantara Spa is located inside Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel which is located in a prime location called Rajadamri. This location is great for shopping lover because it is walkable to the iconic Central World and Siam Paragon. Sharing fun fact, this hotel chain is owned by Thai conglomerate called Minor Group. Their hotel business is known to be specialized in the luxury segment and they have hotel properties worldwide. They also position themselves as leader in the wellness space, so you can be sure that their spa has high standard.

Anantara Spa has many great treatments, but I got intrigued to this spa because of its launch of cannabis treatment during Covid (Cannabis became legalized during this time). I tried Cannabis Stress Release Journey and it was great. This treatment includes Cannabis Foot Ritual and Cannabis Herbal Compress Ball Massage. Upon arrival, you will be served with Cannabis & Floral Tea to kick-start your relaxing journey. My favorite was the herbal compress ball which can help sooth your sore muscles. This is definitely an edgy treatment. But if you look for something more simple, they also have wide range of treatments for you to choose from.

You’ll feel like a new person after this.

10. Sindhorn Wellness by Resense

at Sindhorn Kempinski Hotel Bangkok

Sindhorn Wellness by Resense at Sindhorn Kempinski Hotel Bangkok is probably the most comprehensive urban retreat in Bangkok. Their thermal journey’s facilities exceeded my expectation. So, be prepared to be wowed with their offerings.

For a complete revitalization, the spa suggests contrast therapy, transitioning from hot to cold therapies to stimulate mind and body, promoting every system, from lymphatic to circulatory. The available facilities are such as Bio Sauna, Salt Sauna, Tepidarium Loungers, Experience Showers and Cold Bucket Showers.

As for treatment, I highly recommend Hammam Experiences. Hammam is originated in Turkey and there are only a few places in Thailand that offer this treatment. It was my first time trying and I must say it was quite interesting. You can combine Hamman treatment with Oil Massage like I did and I promise that you will love it.

The best thing about this spa to me is their private Flow Onsen. The Onsen is filled with minerals imported from Japan and it is such a treat to have a whole room to yourself or with your loved one! Enjoying a peaceful moment in Onsen followed by an aromatherapy massage will surely rejuvenate your heart and soul.

And you can trust that the therapist is highly skilled, ensuring you to have the full relaxation. After the treatment, relax and enjoy complimentary hot tea and banana chips.

Inspired by Japanese wellness traditions and infused with modern luxury, The Okura Spa at The Okura Prestige Bangkok offers a haven of tranquility amidst the vibrant cityscapes. The spa design is minimalistic with elegant surroundings, featuring natural light, calming water features, and subtle Japanese touches.

The unique offerings include "Okura Gateway Massage" incorporating amethyst stones for balance. I find incorporating a crystal stone into a treatment to be interesting and I actually felt balanced during and after the treatment. During the session, the amethyst stone is placed on your third eye (crown of the head) and it helps balance your physical, mental and emotional energy. It was indeed an interesting experience.

Another signature treatment is "Ta-ke Relief Massage" which therapist will use the heated bamboo rods for deep muscle relaxation. I did not go for this one because I prefer gentle massage. And pro tip, when you come here, don’t forget to enjoy the panoramic vistas of Bangkok from its infinity pool which is located next to the spa.

14. The Oriental Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok

Definitely last but not least. The Oriental Spa at the iconic Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok is many people’s dream spa. The Oriental Spa offers a timeless escape for rejuvenating mind, body, and spirit. Unwinding in a meticulously restored 19th-century teakwood house and exuding colonial charm is an experience by itself. The spa is located in the lush gardens and calming water features.

The spa menu at The Oriental Spa is comprehensive and there is something for everyone. For its Signature treatment, you can consider “Oriental Signature” which includes Thai and Western massage techniques, and incorporate with essential oil for the optimal soothing benefit.

There are many reasons why this spa is special, but I want to highlight that they also have Endermologie treatments for both face and body and this is not easy to find in Bangkok. Note that the spa is located on the opposite side of the hotel lobby, next to Peninsula Bangkok.

Tip: Where to find good spa deals

Looking for a great hotel spa deal? Consider checking these two lifestyle platforms in advance. They often offer fantastic discounts and promotions on spa treatments. In the past, I've found many value-for-money spa deals through these platforms, so don't miss out!

1. Megatix

Megatix is a website where you can find cool events, and great hotel, food and spa deals. The platform is available in many countries including Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Singapore.

I like coming here to discover great spa voucher where I can buy and keep to use when I’m free. Megatix partners with many hotels in Thailand, so don’t forget to keep a look out as promotions may only last to certain period.

Website

2. Gowabi

GoWabi is like Megatix but it only focuses on wellness and beauty services. The app is available in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. You can discover and book various health and beauty appointments including spas, massages, waxing, dental clinics, beauty treatments, and fitness classes.

It offers options to narrow down your search by category, location, price, and date. You can also reschedule or cancel appointments easily through the app or website. Many people find this to be user-friendly so why don’t you give it a try.

What you should know before going to a spa

  1. Call the spa in advance to enquiry on the treatment details.

Hotel spas often offer signature treatments, but it's best to ask first to ensure you get the massage style you prefer. For example, lymphatic massage is a very light technique specifically designed to stimulate the lymphatic system. If you prefer a medium to deep pressure massage, lymphatic massage wouldn't be a good fit.

  2. Make reservation in advance and show up at least 15 minutes before your appointment

Arriving early for your massage allows your body and mind to slow down and fully relax. Being present in the moment and not feeling rushed is important for a truly beneficial experience, in my opinion. If possible, try to schedule your massage in the evening as it can promote deeper sleep. Lavender oil is known to be helpful for insomnia, so you might also consider requesting it during your massage.

  3. Massage should be comfortable.

Don't believe what you see in the movies! That bone-cracking sound is not good for you! If you feel the pressure is too hard, speak up and let the therapist know. Most hotel therapists will check in with you to confirm the pressure is comfortable, but at local shops, they might not always ask. Remember, pain is not a sign of a good massage. Don't be shy to communicate your needs and preferences.

  4. Avoid the back stretching positions.

Speaking of feeling comfortable, be mindful of back stretching positions. Your back is a sensitive part of your body, and it's true that these positions are part of the Thai massage technique. However, even experienced therapists can cause injury, and I've met many people who had to see doctors afterwards.

Most hotel therapists choose not to offer back stretches because they want to avoid any potential injuries. If you encounter a therapist who wants to "crack" your back, know that they may have good intentions, but you can politely decline. I personally avoid back stretches in Thai massages, and I recommend you consider doing the same.

I hope you enjoy reading my blog about top 14 luxurious hotel spas in Bangkok! Taking care of your body is important and getting a right massage is such a treat that your body deserves.
